The roster of the world values «Spartacus» became classified as «the most successful Soviet ballet». Premiered in 1968 at the Bolshoi Theatre, staged by Yuri Grigorovich resulted in a true triumph of the Soviet Union. The international success has provided not only the need for mankind in the heroic epic. All came together: the music of Khachaturian (colorful, emotionally open, melodically rich), the innovative choreography of the ballet master, the presence of star performers who can shake the world of ballet.
Since that time, «Spartacus» begins to play the prestigious and coveted brand of theater. His presence in the repertoire is an unmistakable indicator of the professionalism of the troupe.
In genre grounds of «Spartacus» is a historical novel on the ballet stage. In search of inspiration Khachaturian made a special trip to Italy. There he studied ancient paintings, sculptures, inspected the buildings of Ancient Rome, a triumphal arch, created by the hands of slaves, barracks of gladiators, the Colosseum, often went through the places, which once was Spartacus with his associates. Thus was born the main musical images of his future works. In the basis of a dramatic conflict – the opposition of the two worlds: the Rome led by Crassus and the world of slaves led by Spartacus.
